Havana.- The multipurpose port terminal in the eastern Santiago de Cuba province is nearly ready to start up operations officially.
The facility can receive vessels of up to 10.8 meters in draft in the first stage and up to 13 meters in a second phase.
Among the installations are two warehouses equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a capacity for up to 20,000 tons as temporary deposits for fast unloading.
Both warehouses have forced ventilation systems, fire detection and extinction and temperature control.
The pier, built in three years by Chinese and Cuban specialists, was constructed on 142 piles buried at a depth of 26 meters and protected with concrete.
