Recovery of Cuban Capital Highlighted
Monday, June 17, 2019

Havana.- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized the restoration works in the Cuban capital, on the occasion Havana's 500th anniversary.

UNESCO officials highlighted the efforts by Havana Historian Eusebio Leal to restore and preserve the historic heart of the city.

The work has been painstaking, constant and effective, despite many difficulties, not only those related to the economic context, but also to the environment, and in particular the impact of the city's proximity of the sea, they pointed out.

UNESCO also recalled that Havana was registered on the World Heritage List in 1982, as recognition of its universal and exceptional values.

On the other hand, Leal considered that restoration is a culture in Cuba and a federation of patrimonial cities, which is articulated from Baracoa to Viñales, was founded.
