Renewable Energy in Western Cuba
Monday, July 8, 2019

Havana.- The western Cuban province of Matanzas has the services of the Cardenas I photovoltaic park, located in the municipality of the same name.

The facility is equipped with 11,700 panels and a potential capacity of 3.75 megawatts, and its construction was financed by a loan from the Abu Dhabi Development Fund.

The park, together with those in Mayajigua and Venegas, in Sancti Spiritus, with a capacity of 2.5 and 1.25 megawatts, respectively, and the one in the Mechanical Plant, in Camaguey, will generate a total power of 10 megawatts.

These facilities will allow an annual saving of 4,700 tons of oil, in addition to providing energy equivalent to the annual consumption of some 7,000 homes.

The project for the construction of the four solar parks had a financing of 15 million dollars, which facilitates the development of the electrical system.
