Havana.- Cuba's healthcare system promotes a program to guarantee safe motherhood for women of childbearing age and increase the fertility rate.
According to experts, the objective is to ensure that women and their partners have access to the healthcare system, so that the risks associated with reproduction can be assessed before pregnancy occurs.
It is noteworthy that in 2018, only 47 percent of Cuban couples with intentions to have offspring went to the healthcare system to be evaluated for reproductive risks.
Family doctor's offices, polyclinics and gynecological hospitals can offer family planning counseling.
Among the educational actions is the communication campaign to publicize the benefits from taking advantage of the optimal reproduction period, between 20 and 35 years of age.
