Tribute to Cuba's National Poet |

Havana.- Alameda de Paula (Paula Promenade), in Havana's historic heart, holds a statue that pays tribute to Cuban National Poet Nicolas Guillen on his 117th birthday.
The artwork, made in bronze by the sculptor Enrique Angulo, represents Guillen standing and looking at the Bay of Havana, one of the places he loved most.
Guillen's work defends black culture within the processes of miscegenation and transculturation.
Among other books, he was the author of El Gran Zoo (1967), La Rueda Dentada (1972), El Diario de a Diario (1972) and Por el Mar de las Antillas (1977).
As part of the activities organized by the Nicolas Guillen Foundation were book launches, academic meetings and art exhibitions.
