Cuban Drug Administered in Primary Health Care
Monday, September 16, 2019

Havana.- The healthcare system of the eastern province of Camagüey contemplates the use in the primary care level of the Cuban medicine HeberFERON to treat basal cell skin cancer.

Previously, this drug was used in the main hospitals of the territory.

The medication will be administered in the municipalities of Nuevitas and Guaimaro, and two polyclinics in the city during the rest of the year and in 2020.

HeberFERON, the only drug of its kind to treat basal cell carcinoma (CBC), the most frequent skin tumor in the world, has benefited over 150 people in the province in the last two years.

Developed by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) in Havana, the drug slows the growth of the tumor and leads to the reduction of the frequency of occurrence of new lesions.
