Cuba Prioritizes Cancer Therapies

Havana.- The Cuban healthcare system prioritizes the development of cancer therapies, a disease that has become the second major cause of death in the country.

In that direction, the work of the Molecular Immunology Center, in charge of developing monoclonal antibody therapies, one of the lines of cancer immunotherapy.

It is worth mentioning that the institution created CIMAher (Nimotuzumab), which is administered to patients suffering from tumors in the head, neck, esophagus and pancreas.

The humanized monoclonal antibody Nimotuzumab is part of the Basic Health Chart and benefits some 500 Cuban cancer patients every year.

There is also CIMAvax-EGF, the first therapeutic vaccine registered against lung cancer, whose safety and efficacy is proven and has already benefited 5,000 patients.
