Cuban Judokas at Major Pan-Am Tournament

Havana.- Cuban judokas will compete at the Pan-American Championship and the Zonal I Tournament in Miami, the United States, where they will have the chance to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The Cuban women's delegation is headed by Driulis González (63 kg), who qualified for the Beijing games at the continental tournament held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

González has won four Olympic medals, including two bronze (Barcelona 1992 and Athens 2004), one silver (Sydney 2000) and one gold (Atlanta 1996).

The other delegation members are Yanet Bermoy (48 kg), Yagnelis Mestre (52 kg), Yurisleidis Lupetey (57 kg), Yalennis Castillo (70 kg), Yurisel Laborde (78 kg) and Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg).

The men's delegation is made up of Oscar Cárdenas (81 kg), Yasmani Piker (60 kg), Yordanis Arencibia (66 kg), Ronald Girones (73 kg), Jorge Benavides (90 kg), Oreidis Despaigne (100 kg) and Oscar Braison (+100 kg).

Cuban female judokas in the 48-, 63- and 78-kg divisions, and male judokas in the 66- and 100-kg categories have qualified for the Beijing games.
