General information
Fauna
Birds

Pelícano

There are no dangerous animals in Cuba, whose fauna is characterized by medium- and small-size specimens, as well as many tiny species, including the smallest animals in the world: the Cuban toad or "sapito" (Sminthillus limbatus) and the bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae); although, contradictorily, there are bigger animals too.

Cuba's fauna is made up of more than 16,500 species, including 42 species of mammals, 350 of birds, 121 of reptiles, 46 of amphibians, 7,493 of insects, 1,300 of arachnids and 2,900 of mollusks.

The country's four major mountain ranges are the main centers for fauna diversification.
