Granma, 730 km (over 450 miles) southeast of Havana, has many natural tourist attractions. The exuberant nature of eastern Cuba's mountains, rich in historic events, offers travelers both its beautiful natural landscape and a historic touch. The Gulf of Guacanayabo, seen from the former Demajagua sugar mill, links one of the country's most beautiful bays with Cuba's struggles for independence. Visitors feel strongly attracted to the Turquino National Park, where well-blazed trails lead hikers upward through the Sierra Maestra Mountain Range to the highest peaks in the country, and the Desembarco del Granma (Granma Landing) National Park, where scuba divers can explore the sea bottoms, just a few meters from the coast.
