| The site is where the Major General Antonio Maceo and his assistant Panchito Gomez Toro died in combat on December 7, 1896. The two bodies were rescued by the Mambises and taken to such place, where the wounds were washed with water got from a well that is there and they kept a vigil over them until their burial the next day. Today, there were built in the site a small number of monuments that is part of the San Pedro complex. |
