The archaeological excavations date from 1980’s. It was the first place where artillery pieces were repaired, as well as small ones made in Havana in the l7th century. In the 18th century it was the site of the San Telmo ramparts and barracks, which were just a memory by the early 19th century. On top of its walls a modern Artillery Arsenal was then erected. In 1938 the building was demolished and a modern “castle” for the police was constructed. The places being used as a police headquarters. |
