The eastern Cuban province of Holguín has become one of the strongholds for tourism in the Caribbean Island, due to its many natural and historic attractions, as well as traditions that draw foreign visitors' attention.
The region holds 14 major cities, including Gibara, which is very attractive due to the excellent state of preservation of its Spanish-style architecture.
The province of Holguín, where one of the main Cuban ports used for slave trade and sugar exports in the 18th century is located, also treasures the ruins of Spanish fortresses that protected the cities from the attacks of corsairs and pirates who were drawn by the region's wealth.
Holguín also offers nearly 60 kilometers of excellent beaches on the Atlantic coast, many of which can be compared to the best beaches in the world, due to their crystal-clear waters and breathtaking beauty.
The capital city also has many charms, including its peculiar architectural style that combines Spanish constructions and American-style chalets, traditional peripheral neighborhoods and Ibero-American culture.
For tourism, Holguín has a solid lodging infrastructure made up of excellent hotels where vacationers who visit that part of the Caribbean Island can stay.
One of those establishments is the Pernik Hotel, which is located in the so-called city of parks, famous for such traditions as the Romerías de Mayo (May Festivities) and for being closed to the archeological treasures of the city of Banes.
The hotel offers 148 double rooms and two suites, equipped with telephone, in addition to medical services, a swimming pool, game rooms and meeting halls.
Inaugurated in December 1980, the Pernik Hotel, named after the Bulgarian city of the same name, benefits from its good location, very close to downtown Holguín and to Guardalavaca Beach.
The hotel also has an excellent restaurant that also offers smorgasbord services, and three bars where guests can enjoy a wide range of Cuban cocktails.
Guests also have access to sports facilities, billiards, electronic games, two car-rental offices, taxis, cell phones and money exchange at the front desk.
One of the most popular areas in the hotel is the Olympic swimming pool, where guests can sunbathe and receive high-quality services, including entertainment activities at night.
If you want to go shopping, you can visit the hotel's shop. The establishment also offers post services and has an Art Gallery that has exhibited the best of Cuban art since 1995.
