Cuba: Tourism of Excellence

The Cuban archipelago, a major tourist destination in the Caribbean region, offers a wide range of natural resources to provide excellent tourist services.

Dozens of excellent beaches are distributed throughout the country, where cities also play a key role in the development of the tourism industry.

One of those cities is Havana, the Cuban capital, which is rich in traditions, architecture and culture, and where hotels and other buildings are closely linked to the development of tourism.

Old Havana holds most of the city's museums, churches, cultural centers and buildings from the Spanish colonial period, including 33,000 buildings, most of which were built from the 18th to the 19th centuries.

Cuba also has several springs of thermal-mineral waters, where specialized medical treatments are provided to tourists interested in improving their health.

On the other hand, sun and beach options, ecotourism, diving, nautical activities and trekking demand good gastronomic services as a complement.

Cuban cuisine has been enriched by European dishes, mainly from Spain, France and Italy. Asia and the Middle East are also present in recipes from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arab and Indian cuisine, just to mention some exquisite dishes served in Cuban restaurants and cafeterias.

In addition, Havana cigars and Cuban rum, which experts consider a liqueur for great occasions and whose origin is closely linked to the introduction of sugarcane in Cuba, are excellent complements while staying in the Caribbean Island.

In Jardines del Rey (King's Gardens), one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the country, 30 kilometers of pristine beaches await vacationers on Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. The latter also offers the highest dunes in the Caribbean (15 meters high).

In Holguín is Bariay, where Genoese Admiral Christopher Columbus first landed in Cuba and highlighted the breathtaking beauty of the island, including excellent beaches such as Guardalavaca, Esmeralda and Pesquero.

Cuba also offers more than 70,000 square kilometers of insular platform and some 5,000 kilometers of coasts, which are bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and are excellent for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Cuba's mountain ecosystems are also influenced by the fast-growing tourism sector, so many options include excursions and overnight stays in those areas.

The Caribbean Island has four mountain ranges that cover about 21 percent of the country's territory, 37 percent of which is covered by forests.
