Cuba: Recreational Diversity

The Cuban archipelago, strategically located in the Caribbean, bets on a diversity of options related to nature, culture and history, which is designed for domestic and foreign vacationers.

Together with dozens of excellent beaches across the country, Cuba has an architectural heritage contributed by the Spanish presence in the island and under the European influence in the years after colony times.

The abovementioned heritage turns Havana, one of the first seven villages founded by the Spanish and then known as San Cristobal de La Habana, into an essential destination in the Cuban tourist programs, mainly the city´s historic heart.

Havana, also known as the Antemural City of West Indies and the Key to the New World, currently represents a living museum of the most diverse construction styles which reflect the different architectural stages that this historic city has gone through.

Beach areas and warm waters are one of the main attractions for thousands of vacationers who visit the island every year to enjoy its tourist facilities.

In western Cuba, the famous tourist resort of Varadero, with 22 beach kilometers in the Hicacos peninsula, is available for sea lovers to enjoy the most varied colors of a sea which has a fine and white sand strip.

In addition, natural reserves, biosphere reserves, natural landscapes and protected areas make up a vast offer network characterized by its richness, excellent preservation and unique features which distinguish the region.

Meanwhile, diving enthusiasts may enjoy more than 70,000 kilometers of the Cuban island shelf, with about 5,000 kilometers of coasts which are bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

The mountain ecosystems in the country also play an important role in the dynamic growth of the tourist sector and many options already include tours and stays in these areas.

In ecological terms, Cuba has a huge diversity which can be watched in the country´s central area where the provinces of Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and Sancti Spíritus have a vast potential for nature tourism.

Cuba also complements its essential tourist product and the beauty of its coasts with its exuberant nature and cultural heritage, rich in traditions and history.

Customs and races have mixed in a process which lasted centuries, giving birth to a unique culture with African, Indigenous, Chinese, French and, of course, Spanish features in an incomparable and rich combination.

Cities with innumerable colonial architectural jewels, perfectly preserved; hotels linked to plastic arts, heritage sites and a large program of celebrations and festivities make up the Cuban tourist offer.
