The Cuban capital, the major leisure destination in the largest Antillean island, contains in its important geography cultural, natural and historical attractions that focus the attention of national and foreign tourism.
Havana, the main urban destination in the archipelago, is also included among the seven wonder cities of the modern world, with a historic center that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) distinguishes as a World Heritage Site.
The figures support this position, as in 2015 it received 1.685.381 million visitors, 21 percent more than in 2014 and in the first three months of 2016 the proportion increased by 37 percent.
In addition, through the José Martí International Airport -in the west of the city- arrive over the 47 percent of travelers to Cuba, and most of those who choose Havana as a tourist destination from the United States, France, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom and Germany, alleged UNESCO.
Havana has in its favor 12,000 rooms in hotels, villas, equivalent to 20 percent of the institutional capacity for tourism in the country.
However, there are greater options included in the increasing private sector facilities, with about 4,700 rooms enabled.
Also, during the winter season 2015-2016 reached the port of Havana cruises Panorama, Adriana, Luis Crystal, Thomson Dream, Opera and Adonia, of cruise company Carnival, the first from the United States in half a century.
However, the sector strategy also considers the promotion of existing capacities in the center and east of the island, thereby to show that tourism goes beyond the capital.
In that sense, in the Jardines del Rey some keys, such as Santa Maria -about 400 kilometers east of the capital archipelago- have wonderful beaches that are nice attractions for tourists.
Added to this, they highlight heritage cities that met half a millennium since their founding, such as Trinidad and Sancti Spiritus, while in the east are Camagüey, Bayamo, Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa.
The offer is complemented with ecological options for hiking, water sports, nature products such as contemplation of landscapes, terrestrial flora and fauna, archeology, diving, four and five-star hotels and international airports.
Plans combined with a significant increase in commercial flights of various airlines to a growing number of Cuban destinations, which facilitated visitor access to the benefits of the largest Antillean island.
