Cuba: A Two-Century Establishment

The historical center of the Cuban capital, full of architectural, cultural and historical values, houses a wide range of emblematic installations of recognized fame in the country and abroad.

In this environment highlights El Floridita Bar-Restaurant, a youngster of two centuries inaugurated in 1817 with the initial name of La Piña de Plata, later to pass to the one of La Florida and closer to our days the present one that is known in the whole world.

It is noteworthy that in 1953 Esquire Magazine recognized it as one of the seven most famous bars in the world and in 1992 is awarded the Best of the Best Five Star Diamond Award of the North American Academy of Gastronomic Sciences as the King of the Daiquiri and the more representative restaurant specialized in fish and seafood.

Located on the busy corner of Monserrate and Obispo in Old Havana, Floridita became world-famous by the American writer Ernest Hemingway, who made famous the phrase "My mojito in the Bodeguita, my daiquiri in the Floridita".

As a sort of symbolic dressing of the prestigious restaurant, stands a statue of the author of The Old Man and the Sea, lying in the main bar of the bar with his daiquiri as a companion.

Among the personalities who have visited this place are boxer Rocky Marciano, writer Tennessee Williams, film director Francis Ford Coppola, Italian actress Ornella Muti, French fashion designer Paco Rabanne and French actor Jean Paul Belmondo.

Specialists remember that the bar still shows the same 10 meters-long mahogany bar and also the statue of Hemingway to perpetuate its eternal presence there.

The expansion of the tourism industry in Cuba, supported by the diversity of attractions (natural, historical and cultural), is an ideal complement to the wide range of options offered by the island's gastronomy.

From the simplest sites, designed in the most modern style of fast food establishments, to centers with a history of several tens of years, the alternatives are within reach of all.

The development of more than five centuries of Cuban society is reflected in the innumerable culinary options that represent those elements incorporated to the traditions of the country.

At this juncture, the influence of Floridita extends beyond the Cuban borders by becoming an international brand with franchises in Europe.

Excellent dishes prepared by chefs of the culinary sector guarantee their status as author cuisine, with a unique seal that can only be found between walls that are preserved despite the passage of time.

Precisely, facilities of this type are erected in a forced destination of thousands of international visitors who come every year to enjoy their gastronomic offerings, or simply taste the famous daiquiri.
