The Cuban archipelago, a tourist destination par excellence in the Caribbean, stands out for its unique options of sun and beach, a real attraction for thousands of visitors who come every year to the country.

This way, nature, traditions and history go hand in hand in a territory of more than 110,000 square kilometers, with almost 5,800 kilometers of coasts, including about 600 kilometers of excellent beaches.

Precisely, the latter, combined with a tropical climate, fine sand, transparent and warm waters, make up an option that holidaymakers cannot refuse.

Such is the case of Varadero, which is considered, according to the 2018 Travelers Choice Awards, organized by the world's largest travel website, TripAdvisor, the third best beach in the world.

In the ranking composed of the best 25 beaches in the world, Varadero is positioned only behind Grace Bay (Turks and Caicos Islands) and Baia Do Sancho, in Brazil.

In addition, actions are being taken to rehabilitate several resorts in the country, as part of a strategy to minimize the effects of climate change.

In this regard, the artificial supply of sand is the most advantageous alternative to counteract the effects of erosion on the beaches, allowing restoring the landscape and the conditions that characterize the sandy shores, and effectively protecting the coastal area.

The nationwide programs consider these works feasible in tourist destinations such as Playas del Este, Varadero, Villa Clara, Jardines del Rey, Camagüey, Las Tunas, Holguín, Cayo Largo and Ancón.

This improves the quality of the beaches and therefore increases their capacity to receive tourists.

Not even the capital itself, full of charms typical of a city with almost five centuries of history, escapes that influence, because the so-called Blue Circuit, with more than 15 kilometers of coastal strip, with special highlight for the site known as Santa María del Mar, is located to the east of Havana.

In central Cuba, the Ancón Peninsula has the best beaches on the south coast, with sea bottoms of steep relief and abundant presence of black coral.

In Villa Clara, Cayo Santa María welcomes in just 13 kilometers of extension vast stretches of sand and sea that are virtually pristine and are ready for the delight of the most demanding customers.

In Jardines del Rey, one of the main tourist destinations in the country, 30 kilometers of pristine beaches await holidaymakers in Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. In the latter, Pilar Beach pays tribute to the U.S. novelist Ernest Hemingway with the highest dunes in the Caribbean, which are 15 meters high.

Eastern Cuba is not far behind in sun and sea offers, with the fundamental weight in Holguín, where Bariay, the site where Admiral Christopher Columbus landed in 1492 is located, and where well-known places for leisure such as the beaches Guardalavaca, Esmeralda and Pesquero can be visited.
