Sun and Beaches: A Unique Offer for Tourism in Cuba

The largest Antillean island, one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the Caribbean region, offers a wide gamut of attractions that get together to provide a unique offer to thousands of visitors who bet on the Island to spend their vacations.

Cuba's exuberant nature, centennial traditions and history go hand in hand throughout the island's 110,000 square kilometers and nearly 5,800 kilometers of coasts, including 600 kilometers of excellent beaches.

The beaches, combined with a tropical climate, thin sand and crystal-clear warm waters, form part of an offer that vacationers cannot refuse.

Not even the capital, full of charms that characterize a city that is nearly five centuries old, escapes from the influences of beaches, since the so-called Blue Circuit is located to the east, with more than 15 kilometers of white-sanded beaches of excellent quality, especially the area known as Santa María del Mar.

In the neighboring province of Havana, Jibacoa beach stands out, due to the peculiar characteristics of the landscape, where its calm waters are surrounded by hills that are up to 100 meters high and run parallel to the coast, giving the place a pleasant sense of privacy.

In western Cuba, the world-famous Varadero Beach - a 22-kilometer strip of thin white sand in the Hicacos Peninsula - is a favorite spot for those who love to enjoy the most varied tonalities of blue.

However, not everything is the color of snow, there are black-sanded beaches, such as the beautiful Bibijagua Beach, on the Isle of Youth, or brown-sanded ones, such as Marea del Portillo, in the eastern province of Granma.

In the central part of the Caribbean island, the Ancón Peninsula boasts one of the best beaches along the southern coast of Cuba, with an abrupt seabed inhabited by large colonies of black coral.

In Villa Clara, Cayo Santa María's excellent beaches, concentrated in barely 13 square kilometers, are ready for the enjoyment of the most demanding tourists.

Some experts consider Santa Lucía - in the eastern province of Camagüey - the hidden Eden and one of the best beaches in the world, with cream sands and facilities to practice all kinds of nautical activities.

A singular touch is provided by a huge coral barrier - regarded by many experts as the second largest of its kind in the world -, which protects the beach and runs for 400 kilometers parallel to Cayo Sabinal, Cayo Guajaba, Cayo Romano and Cayo Cruz.

In Jardines del Rey, one of Cuba's major tourist regions, 30 kilometers of virgin beaches await vacationers on Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo. It is on the latter where there is a beach known as Pilar, in honor of U.S. novelist Ernest Hemingway, where the highest dunes in the Caribbean - 15 meters high - can be found.

Eastern Cuba does not lag behind regarding its offers of sun and beaches, especially in Holguín, where Bariay is located, the place where Admiral Christopher Columbus landed in 1492, as well as other areas widely known in the leisure world, such as the beaches Guardalavaca, Esmeralda and Pesquero.
