Cuban Women's Volleyball Team Trains in Russia
Monday, May 16, 2005

Havana.- The Cuban women's volleyball team began training in Russia this month, with an eye to getting ready for major international competitions this year.

The team is composed of 12 players, headed by Zoila Barros and Yumilka Ruiz, in addition to Daimí Ramírez, Liana Mesa, Yanelis Santos, Rosir Calderón, Kenia Carcacés, Yaíma Ortiz, Maibelis Martínez, Nancy Carrillo, Rachel Sánchez and Yenisey González.

The training program includes stays at the Uraloshka Club, the champion in Russia's first division, and in Ekaterinburg.

In both cases, the Cuban team will play friendly and training games against Russian teams, and there are prospects to hold several games in China.

The schedule of the Cuban women's volleyball team includes the Pan-American Cup in the Dominican Republic (June 8-16), the Grand Prix in early July in Asian and European cities, and the World Cup in Japan in November.
