Cuba to Compete at 2006 World Volleyball League
Monday, September 19, 2005

Havana.- The Cuban men's volleyball team will compete at the 2006 World League, playing in Group D, along with Bulgaria, South Korea and Egypt.

According to experts, this will be the sixteenth time that Cuba participates in the tournament, whose final phase will be held in Moscow (Russia) in August.

The other groups are made up of Serbia and Montenegro, the United States, Poland and Japan (A); Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Greece (B), and Russia, Italy, China and France (C).

In contrast to the 2005 edition of the World League, Venezuela will be absent from this year's tournament, while Russia, the United States, South Korea and China will return to that major competition.

At a recent meeting of the International Volleyball Federation, Cuba was chosen the venue with the largest number of spectators during three particular series against Bulgaria, Italy and France.

The Caribbean Island was also acknowledged for organizing the Havana phase of the World League at the traditional Ciudad Deportiva (Sports City), and especially by the excellent work carried out by the press commission.
