Mexican Airline Volaris to Enlarge Fleet
Monday, December 25, 2006

Mexico.- Mexico's low-cost airline Volaris, which started up operations in March 2006, plans to add eight Airbus-319 planes to its fleet in January.

Company executives said that after enlarging its fleet, the airline will open at least 10 routes, in addition to increasing the frequency of flights in the existing routes.

Each 144-seat aircraft costs about 60 million dollars, they added.

Since the beginning of operations, the airline has carried 800,000 passengers and plans to move one million travelers in 2006.

The company expects to carry three million passengers and to have revenues of nearly 250 million dollars in 2007.

Volaris will offer its services in the international market with a flight between Toluca and Tijuana, on the US-Mexican border, and it will provide land transportation from there to San Diego.
