Cuban Experts Assist Dominican Rep. in Oil Drilling
Monday, March 5, 2007

Santo Domingo.- Cuban experts are collaborating with the National Energy Commission in the Dominican Republic to drill for oil in mainland and offshore.

Officials from that institution pointed out that the prospecting area will include the Atlantic sectors, where geological conditions are similar to those in the Cuban areas where oil wells are being exploited.

As part of bilateral cooperation, several delegations from Cuba's Oil Research Center and Cuba Petróleo (Cupet) have visited the Dominican Republic to learn about the zones of Las Mercedes, Once-Once and Maleno, among others.

Cuban and Dominican authorities signed a confidentiality agreement on the information supplied, and they are now weighing the sources of financing that will be used.

The Dominican officials noted that the Cuban experts could do this kind of work in a relatively short period.
