New Coach for Cuban Volleyball Team
Monday, March 19, 2007

Havana.- The Cuban men's volleyball team, which is among the first in the world, will be coached again by Orlando Samuell, who trained them from 1985 to 1993.

The team's achievements during the period during which Samuell coached them include the gold medal at the 1989 World Cup and the silver medal at the 1990 World Championship. Samuell has returned to Cuba after coaching the Mexican women's team for six months.

Raúl Diago, president of the Cuban Volleyball Federation, pointed out that it is time to seek better results, taking advantage of the team's excellent human resource.

The Cubans finished third at the 2005 World League, seventh at last year's event, and 15th at the World Championship in 2006.

The team will also be coached by Idalberto Valdés, who was an excellent attacker of the national team, Ramón Lawrence and Nicolás Vives.
