Cuba Boosts Use of Solar Energy
Monday, August 6, 2007

Havana.- Cuba is boosting the use of solar energy as an alternative to save energy and benefit faraway communities.

According to experts, more than 8,000 photovoltaic systems have been installed in Cuba so far.

The systems supply power to 2,631 schools, 275 houses, 1,882 video halls and 460 family doctor's offices, mainly in eastern Cuba.

The experts recalled that 25 percent of television halls electrified with solar energy are in the provinces of Guantánamo and Granma.

Ecosol Solar, a division of Corporación para la Exportación de Técnica Electrónica (COPEXTEL), is also in charge of supplying, designing and installing 1,143 photovoltaic systems at schools, doctor's offices and pumping stations in Venezuela.

Ecosol Solar provides environmentally-sustainable energy solutions based on solar energy.
