Cuba Wins Pan-Am Handball Championship
Monday, November 19, 2007

Havana.- The Cuban team won the Pan-American Men's Handball Championship, first division, held in this capital.

In the gold-medal game, Cuba beat Canada 31-13 and joined the main group in the continent.

Cuba is expected to win a medal at the continental tournament, scheduled for June 2008 in the United States, where three teams will qualify for the world championship.

Canada finished second in the Havana meeting, winning two games, tying one and losing one. It was followed by the Dominican Republic (1-1-2) and Mexico (0-2-2).

That way, Cuba returned to the world handball ranking, after being out of it over the past few years due to absences in major international competitions.
