Cuba Promotes Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
Monday, January 5, 2009

Havana.- Cuba's health system is promoting continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) to treat patients suffering from chronic kidney failure.

According to experts, that technique is used in patients in an advanced stage of the disease who are waiting for a transplant.

The procedure is carried out by the patient with assistance from a trained relative, so they do not have to depend on machines and can carry out usual activities like work and study.

Cuban patients suffering from kidney failure benefit from a nationwide nephrological network made up of 47 units and equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
