New Water-Treating Plant in Cuba
Monday, January 26, 2009

Havana.- Health services in Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth), in western Cuba, will benefit from the installation of a water-treating plant for dialysis treatments.

Experts from Cuba and the Spanish company Gambro will assemble the new facility at the local general teaching hospital.

After works are completed in the next few weeks, at least 14 artificial kidneys, used to treat patients suffering from chronic kidney failure, will be operational.

The plant will produce highly-pure water for hemodialysis and will benefit 28 local patients.

Conditions exist to install more artificial kidneys, considering that the number of patients suffering from chronic kidney failure tends to increase.
