Cuba Consolidates Marble Industry
Monday, July 27, 2009

Havana.- Cuba's construction industry has increase production of marble to meet the domestic demand for that material.

As part of that strategy, two cutters were installed to cut unpolished marble at the Cariblanca plant in central Sancti Spiritus province.

Executives pointed out that the new machines will process pieces of 1,300 square meters this year.

The marble from Sancti Spiritus is highly demanded on the domestic and the international markets, due to its cream color, which is unique in Cuba.

In addition, Cariblanca's workers will install the first polishing machine to give a nice finish to the product.

The company Mármoles del Centro plans to produce some 5,500 square meters of marble this year, including 1,800 square meters for export.
