Cuban Health Authorities Take Actions against Hypertension

Havana.- Cuba's healthcare system is promoting actions to prevent high blood pressure, which is considered a risk factor that causes several diseases.

Nearly 40 percent of Cubans suffer from hypertension, thus the importance to take measures to fight the disease.

In Cuba, high blood pressure causes 80 percent of cerebral-vascular accidents, 40 percent of heart attacks and 25 percent of chronic kidney failure.

According to experts, those health problems can be avoided if patients followed their medical treatment and have a healthy lifestyle.

Hypertension is characterized by chronic high blood pressure that can cause brain hemorrhage, heart attacks, and heart and kidney failure if not treated properly.
