Tourist Facilities in Western Cuba

The province of Pinar del Río, a stronghold for nature tourism in western Cuba, features enough attractions, ranging from sun and beach programs to trekking and excellent springs of medicinal waters.

Characterized by its pristine environment, accompanied by many plant and animal species - many of which are endemic - Pinar del Río complements its offer with a hotel infrastructure that meets the ever-increasing demand from thousands of vacationers who visit that region every year.

Most tourist facilities in the province are concentrated in the Viñales Valley, Cuba's Natural Monument, where the Los Jazmines Hotel sits with excellent offers for trekking and ecological tourism.

Some of these offers are "El Camino hacia los Mogotes" (The Way to the Mogotes), which begins at the hotel and leads to the depths of the Viñales Valley, ending at the Mural of Prehistory; "Naturaleza Insospechada" (Unsuspected Nature), during which travelers can enjoy the region's rich and varied fauna; and "Los Secretos de un Mundo Subterráneo" (The Secrets of an Underground World), which consists of a tour of the Great Cavern of Santo Tomás.

Guests at the Los Jazmines Hotel can enjoy such options as meeting halls, air-conditioned rooms, sports facilities and outdoors activities.

Also in the Viñales Valley sits the Motel La Ermita, which offers the tour "Maravillas de Viñales" (Viñales's Wonders), which consists of a walk to the Sierra del Infierno, or Hell's Sierra in English, during which travelers can enjoy the region's fauna and flora, especially birds and the cork palm (Microcycas calocoma).

Another tourist facility in the Viñales Valley is the Rancho San Vicente Hotel, situated near a spring of mineral-medicinal waters, which became famous in the 19th century.

In Soroa, the leisure industry is supported by the services of a hotel and villas, accompanied by a peculiar pleasant atmosphere, natural, historic and cultural resources, and excellent medicinal waters.

Soroa's offers include horseback tours and different trekking modalities with advisory from specialized personnel, including excursions to the ruins of French coffee plantations from the 19th century, the Bayate River and the El Brujito-La Comadre countryside community.

Run by the chain Islazul, the Pinar del Río Hotel, located in the city of the same name, has over 130 rooms equipped with all modern amenities to guarantee a comfortable and pleasant stay, in addition to providing access to a broad network of museums, among other attractions.

In destinations such as Cayo Levisa, a tourist resort awaits travelers with rustic air-conditioned cabins, a countryside restaurant serving international dishes, bar, shop and other facilities.

The growing tourist demand in Pinar del Río led to a broad investment program that included the construction of new rooms at Rancho San Vicente and the María La Gorda International Diving Center, along with feasibility studies to develop the Guanacahabibes Peninsula.

With these options, Cuba's westernmost province is ready to offer a unique leisure program, marked by nature and the green color of its landscapes.
