Cuba: Options against Skin Diseases

Cuba's health system, which consists of a broad network of medical institutions and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, provides therapeutic options to fight a wide range of dermatological diseases that affect humans.

The treatment against vitiligo is provided at the Hystotherapy Center on an outpatient basis, so patients can stay at excellent hotels in the Cuban capital.

That way, travelers can enjoy a series of tourist offers, in a perfect combination of health care and leisure while staying in the Caribbean Island.

Treatments have proved to be effective in 86 percent of cases, regarding the repigmentation of the skin, since Cuban physicians focus on the patient's full recovery from the disease.

Cuba's health system developed a medication known as Melagenina Plus, which is an alcoholic extract obtained from human placenta that speeds up production of melanin.

According to experts, Melagenina Plus has been very effective in fully reversing the disease in the most severe cases of vitiligo, and can be administered to both children and adults, because it does not cause side effects.

Patients suffering from alopecia also benefit from other treatments against skin affections. In this case, the procedure has proved to be effective in 76 percent of cases.

It is an outpatient treatment using a piloactive lotion that that stimulates hair regeneration, favors blood circulation, and improves protein synthesis inside each pilose follicle.

The lotion, which does not cause side effects, contributes to hair revitalization by strengthening its root, increasing thickness and reducing production of flakes, seborrhea and premature boldness.

A similar mechanism is activated to fight psoriasis, a disease caused by a disorder in skin cell growth. Psoriasis appears as plaques on the torso, joints and the scalp.

It is an outpatient treatment during which doctors determine the method to be used and the volume of medication to be administered to fight the disease.

Cuba has developed a product known as Coriodermina, which is obtained from human placenta and inhibits the development of psoriasis crises by regulating the speed of reproduction of skin cells.

The medication is a water-soluble jelly that is applied on the affected area and is absorbed by the skin. No side effects have been reported after administering Coriodermina.
