Description |
Declared National Monument. This institution, unique in Latin America, became important because of its historical and architectural values. Its halls focus on the characteristics of the jail system since the early 1920’s up to the revolutionary time. The jail became historical due to the imprisonment of fighters for the Cuban independence and opponents to the unpopular tyrannies that ruled in the country until 1959. Fidel Castro and a group of young revolutionaries who attacked Moncada Garrison on July 26, 1953, were among the prisoners. |
